Welcome to Shepherd Community Academy!

A message from the Principal

As a program within Shepherd Community Center, we are committed to doing our part to break the cycle of poverty on the near Eastside of Indianapolis. We do this by engaging and empowering students and their families to become lifelong learners. This happens as our Christ-like teachers, staff, and volunteers equip our students and families with the physical, emotional, spiritual, and academic support they will need to be successful in an ever-changing world.

At Shepherd Community Academy, we know our students. Each morning, students are greeted by multiple caring adults even before they get to the classroom. Our school is a family. We laugh, cry, and pray together. We build relationships. As each student leaves at the end of the day, they receive a handshake, hug, or high 5 from one or more staff members. The sense of community and connection we cultivate builds an attitude of hope in our students and their families.

At Shepherd Community Academy, we empower our students. By building student leadership and encouraging student accountability, we prepare students for real-world success in future careers and relationships. By integrating social-emotional learning and Biblical principles throughout our school days, we equip students with the tools they need to be leaders in their communities and the world around us.

At Shepherd Community Academy, we specialize in preparing our students to be successful when they leave us to move on to middle school, high school, college, technical school, and career. While neighboring public schools have a 3rd-grade literacy rate of approximately 50% (based upon the percentage of 3rd-grade students that pass the I-Read test), our rate has consistently been 86% or above since the 2022-23 school year.

You can find a home at Shepherd Community Academy. We would love the opportunity to invest in the life of your student and help them achieve their God-given dreams and purpose. Contact us to learn more and how you can join the Shepherd family this school year!
